Singapore and Malacca, Malaysia
Because my luggage is boring, black and a bit dirty, I tie a colorful ribbon around the handle so I can tell it apart from the other boring, black and dirty luggage. I forgot where I got that tip, but it's fun.
Singapore and Malacca, Malaysia 2006. 1 Singapore dollar (SGD) = 31 Philippine pesos (PHP). At least for the purposes of this entry.
My SGD 10 meal at JetStar Asia. Could use a little more sauce, but it did keep me from getting hungry on the 3-hour trip. JetStar Asia was a good airline choice price-wise, but the budget airline didn't provide complimentary meals and didn't allow "baon" either. So it's either this, or starve.
Taking a taxi from the airport. Another pleasant taxi driver. Not old enough to be an "uncle," in my opinion, but he did strike up a conversation about the weather. Very polite.
Bugis Street
Food stalls! I had a sweet corn crispy pancake, and it was yummy. The preparation made the rest of the place smell good too.
You mean it might not have been an innocent bump?
What I think is actually a Selecta ice cream cart. But I didn't get to try it! Grrr.
Flower cart.
Temple.
Pigeons. And maybe some avian poo. (Heh.)
Self explanatory.
The tag says "Bondage Kitty"!!!
Finally, had myself some Hainanese Chicken Rice at a hawker center. SGD 2.50.
Clarke Quay (Sort of)
What's up? They installed these sunshades all over the quaint riverside hangout that was my favorite from my first visit. Now Clarke Quay looks like it's been taken over by aliens.
Emerald Hill
Dinner at a bar called Ice Cold Beer.
Middle Ground
The causeway between Malaysia (left) and Singapore.
Johor Bahru, Malaysia
Batik artist. I bought one of his paintings for SGD 10.
Malacca
The dessert selection from the day tour's lunch buffet at the Equatorial Hotel Malacca. Lots of gelatin. The day tour, by the way, costs SGD 77 per person and includes a tour bus (3 hours-ish one way), hotel lunch, and a guided walking tour.
Quiet street in Malacca.
One of the touristy landmarks.
A view of the town from the bridge.
Church.
The original church site.
Tombstones from the original Dutch settlement, preserved inside the church ruins.
Back to Singapore, more meals
Nasi Lemak lunch at Sim Lim Square.
Some of the dinner dishes I had with
Roti prata, prepared by hand by the same guy who takes the orders and works the cash register! Had this with mutton masala at Little India. We think the grill that cooked this was very hot, and that is why we are OK.
Jurong Birdpark
Flamingo models. (The one in the middle was looking directly at me, creepy.)
Have your picture taken with the friendly vulture!
The Waterfall Aviary, the world's tallest (man-made) waterfalls. I don't know if the "man-made" makes it more or less impressive an achievement.
We think the penguins on the left are peeing but we can't be sure.
